fig tree fragrance notes: fig, citrus and cedarwood

Fig Tree reed diffuser: a scent guide

Fig Tree is the strongest scent in the kirri range, rated 5 out of 5 on our reed diffuser strength scale. It smells of green fig and citrus up top, plum in the middle and cedarwood with soft musk at the base.

If you've noticed it on a friend's hallway table and wondered what it actually is, this guide covers the notes, how strong it reads in a real room and which formats it comes in.

What Fig Tree smells like

The opening is the part people notice first: a green, slightly milky fig with a squeeze of citrus. It doesn't smell like fig jam. Think of the leaves and unripe fruit you brush past in a backyard in February.

  • Top: fig, citrus, lavender, leafy greens
  • Heart: plum, cyclamen
  • Base: cedarwood, musk

The lavender is a supporting note, not the lead. It softens the citrus so the opening doesn't read sharp. Plum gives the middle a darker, rounder sweetness, and cedarwood keeps the whole thing from tipping into dessert.

How strong is a 5 out of 5?

Strong enough that you'll smell it when you walk in the front door, even with the diffuser two rooms away. That's the appeal of Fig Tree for most people. One diffuser can fill an open-plan living area, a wide hallway or an entry with high ceilings.

The flip side: in a small bathroom or study it can be a lot. Two easy fixes:

  • Use fewer reeds: start with three or four in a small room and add more after a week if you want it stronger
  • Go smaller: the 100ml reed diffuser suits powder rooms and bedsides better than the 200ml

Our reed diffuser care guide covers flipping reeds and placement in more detail.

Rooms and seasons

Fig Tree is a late-summer scent by nature, green and fruity, but the cedarwood and musk base keeps it working through autumn and winter. It's one of the few scents in the range that people leave running all year.

  • Living and dining: the strength carries right across open-plan spaces
  • Entry and hallway: the first thing guests notice, and it travels up stairwells
  • Kitchen: fig and citrus sit comfortably alongside cooking smells
  • Bedroom: works well, but choose the 100ml or a low setting

Fig Tree formats

Fig Tree comes in every kirri home format, so you can run the same scent through the whole house.

One rule worth knowing: traditional refills are made for passive diffusers, and their perfumer's alcohol damages the Micro, Element, Beacon and Pillar. Electric diffusers only take Micro, Macro or Aura Oil. Which oil fits my diffuser has the full list.

Scents to pair with Fig Tree

Fig Tree is bold, so pair it with something softer in the next room rather than another heavyweight.

  • Rose Gold: shares a fig note, and at 2/5 it's a gentle follow-on for a bedroom
  • Santal Woods: cedar and sandalwood echo Fig Tree's base; read the Santal Woods guide
  • Botanical Gardens: a floral room that still shares cedarwood and musk

Fig Tree FAQ

Does Fig Tree smell sweet?

Only a little. Plum adds some sweetness in the heart, but the fig is green rather than jammy and the cedarwood keeps the base dry.

Is Fig Tree too strong for a small room?

It can be with a full set of reeds. Use three or four reeds, or the 100ml reed diffuser, and add more later if you want.

How long does a Fig Tree reed diffuser last?

The 200ml typically lasts 1 to 6 months and the 100ml 1 to 3 months, depending on room size, airflow and how many reeds you use.
