The kirri Element is a cordless, rechargeable waterless diffuser: on battery it runs for about 12 hours on low and about 8 hours on high, and a full charge takes about 6 hours. It also runs plugged in, so you can leave it on the cord day to day and unplug it when you want it somewhere else.
That flexibility is the main reason people choose a cordless diffuser. Here's how the Element works on battery, and how to get the most from it.
The Element at a glance
- Power: rechargeable battery, or plugged in
- Battery life: about 12 hours on low, 8 on high
- Charge time: about 6 hours
- Coverage: up to 150sqm
- Noise: rated at 36 dB
- Oil: Micro Oil (15ml), which typically lasts 1 to 3 months
- Build: clay ceramic and metal, 95mm x 195mm
How a cordless waterless diffuser works
The Element has no water tank. The 15ml oil bottle screws straight in, and a small air pump turns the undiluted oil into a fine mist you mostly can't see. There's no heat involved.
It doesn't mist nonstop. Each intensity runs in short bursts with a 120 second pause in between: delicate runs for 6 seconds, subtle 12, radiant 18 and intense 24. So for most of the time it's on, the diffuser is quietly paused between bursts.
Why battery life changes with the setting
On delicate the Element mists for 6 seconds in every 126; on intense, 24 seconds in every 144. Higher settings spend more of each cycle misting, so they use more battery and more oil. That's the difference between about 12 hours on low and about 8 on high. A low setting stretches both the battery and the bottle.
Setting it up
- Charge it first: give it a full charge, about 6 hours, before the first cordless run
- Screw in the oil: make sure the bottle is firm and the diffuser sits upright on a flat surface
- Pair the app: connect it to the kirri app, choose an intensity and start on delicate
- Schedule it: set run times so it's on when you're home. See how to set up a smart diffuser schedule
When to use it cordless
- No power point nearby: a hall table, a bookshelf or a sideboard away from the wall
- Before guests: move it to the dining or living area for the evening
- A tidy look: no cord running across the room when you're entertaining
- Moving between rooms: the study during the day, the living room at night
For everyday running in one spot, we suggest leaving it plugged in and keeping the battery for when you want it. If you're carrying it between rooms, keep it upright so the oil stays where it should.
Where it works best
The Element covers up to 150sqm, so it suits a bedroom, study or a medium open-plan living area. It's also quiet enough for a bedroom: put it across the room rather than on the bedside table, and schedule it to switch off before bed. For a big open-plan home up to 300sqm, the mains-powered Beacon is the better fit. Our diffuser size guide compares them all.
Which oil it takes
The Element takes Micro Oil (15ml), the same bottle as the Micro. Never use a traditional refill (the oil for reed, wood and car diffusers): it's high in perfumer's alcohol and damages electric diffusers. The full list is in our oil compatibility guide.
Choosing a scent? Santal woods (sandalwood, cedar, cardamom, amber) and dream (citrus, bergamot, jasmine, tea, musk, amber) both suit a bedroom or study, or try the discovery kit first.
Looking after the battery and the diffuser
- Keep it dry: away from basins, showers and splashes
- Keep it cool: out of direct sun and away from heaters
- Wipe, don't wash: a soft dry cloth on the outside is all it needs
- Warranty: kirri smart diffusers come with a 12-month warranty

FAQ
How long does the Element battery last?
About 12 hours on low and about 8 hours on high. Scheduling it to run only when you're home stretches it further.
Can the Element run while it's plugged in?
Yes. It runs plugged in, so you can use it on the cord and switch to battery when you want to move it.
Is a cordless diffuser as strong as a plug-in one?
The Element's strength comes from its intensity setting, not the power source. For a bigger space, choose a larger diffuser rather than a higher setting.
