Description

Inspiration
Christmas Day, and the pudding has been on the stove since seven. It’s wrapped in cloth, heavy with plum and malt, and the whole kitchen smells of it. Grandma zests an orange into the custard, then drops in a vanilla pod. Almonds toast in a dry pan. There are cloves in a saucer and a cinnamon stick nobody can find. On the bench, a plate of lamingtons is going soft in the heat. The fan turns overhead, and one by one the family drifts in, following the smell.
