They're versatile and easy to use around the home, but a little care keeps them smelling their best for longer. Store in a cool, dark place: heat and light can change how an oil smells over time. Keep your bottles in a cupboard or drawer, out of direct sun and away from the stove or heater.

Keep the original label: it has the scent name and the safety directions on it. Leave each oil in its own bottle rather than decanting it, so you always know what you're using.

Use an oil burner or water-based diffuser: add a few drops from the dropper to the water in the dish of your oil burner, or to the tank of a water-based diffuser. Top up the water as it evaporates and never let the dish run dry. Never leave a lit burner unattended. Clean the dish or tank regularly, following the manufacturer's instructions, so old oil doesn't build up.
